As an Arizona Realtor who helps a lot of people relocate here, one of the questions I hear all the time is: “Where should I live in Arizona?”
And the answer really depends on the lifestyle you’re looking for. Some people want walkability and restaurants nearby, others want newer homes and more space, while some are looking for a quieter community that still keeps them close to everything the Valley has to offer.
For 2026, AZ Big Media asked the public to vote for their favorite Arizona communities, with thousands of votes helping determine the results.
Here are the places that made this year’s AZ Big 10 list for the best places to live in Arizona.
Taking the No. 1 spot for 2026 is Litchfield Park.
Located in the West Valley, Litchfield Park combines small-town charm with convenient access to the larger Phoenix metro area. Residents can enjoy parks, golf, outdoor recreation and views toward the White Tank Mountains while remaining close to West Valley employers and amenities.
It’s a great example of how different life can feel depending on which part of the Valley you choose.
It’s no surprise to see Scottsdale near the top of a list like this.
From Old Town and McCormick Ranch to North Scottsdale, the city offers a wide range of neighborhoods and lifestyles. Scottsdale is especially known for its dining, resorts, golf, shopping and access to the Sonoran Desert.
And because each part of Scottsdale feels a little different, finding the right neighborhood can be just as important as choosing the city itself.
Gilbert has become one of the East Valley communities I hear about frequently from people considering a move to Arizona.
Its Heritage District gives you restaurants and local businesses in the heart of town, while other parts of Gilbert offer suburban neighborhoods and access to everything the East Valley has to offer.
Coming in at No. 4 is Surprise, representing another West Valley option on this year’s list.
If you’re exploring communities outside Central Phoenix and Scottsdale, Surprise is one of the areas worth having on your radar while comparing different parts of the metro.
Chandler takes the fifth spot.
Located in the East Valley, Chandler gives residents access to employment centers, shopping, dining and entertainment while offering a variety of residential areas.
It’s another community I’d consider when comparing the different lifestyles available across Greater Phoenix.
At No. 6 is Peoria.
This West Valley community gives residents access to both suburban amenities and outdoor recreation, making it another area to explore if you want to be farther from Central Phoenix while remaining within the metro area.
Buckeye lands at No. 7 on the 2026 list.
As you head farther west, the feel of the Valley starts to change, and Buckeye gives buyers another option when comparing communities throughout Greater Phoenix.
Coming in at No. 8 is Queen Creek.
Located in the southeast Valley, Queen Creek is another community to keep on your list if you’re exploring the Gilbert, Chandler and East Valley side of the metro.
Mesa takes the ninth spot and offers a wide variety of neighborhoods and areas to explore.
Its size means your experience can vary quite a bit depending on where in Mesa you choose to live, making it especially important to compare neighborhoods rather than looking at the city as a whole.
Rounding out the list is Ahwatukee.
Located along South Mountain, Ahwatukee offers a different feel from many other parts of Phoenix, especially for people who like having desert and mountain scenery close to home.
Lists like this are a fun starting point, but there really isn’t one Arizona community that works for everyone.
When I help someone relocate here, I always think about the lifestyle they want first. How important is commute time? Do you want to be close to restaurants and nightlife? Would you rather have more space? Are hiking and outdoor activities important? Do you want an established neighborhood or something newer?
Those answers can completely change which part of the Valley makes sense for you.
If you’re thinking about moving to Arizona, I’d love to help you compare the different communities and find the one that feels most like home.
