10 Amazing Places to Watch the Sunset in Arizona

September 17, 2026

There’s just something about an Arizona sunset.

Maybe it’s the desert sky turning every shade of pink, orange and purple. Maybe it’s the silhouettes of saguaros and mountains in the distance. Or maybe it’s because we have so many incredible places to stop, slow down and watch the day come to an end.

Whether you want to pair the view with dinner and cocktails, make it part of a weekend getaway, or simply find a beautiful overlook, here are 10 places to soak up an unforgettable Arizona sunset.

1. Hopi Point | Grand Canyon

Watching the sunset over the Grand Canyon is one of those Arizona experiences everyone should have at least once.

Hopi Point on the South Rim offers a wide western-facing view as the changing light transforms the canyon walls from gold and orange to deep reds and purples. And don’t leave the second the sun disappears. The colors can become even more dramatic afterward.

2. Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill | Sedona

Dinner with a Sedona sunset? Yes, please.

Perched on a scenic bluff, Mariposa offers panoramic views of Sedona’s famous red rocks from both its dining room and expansive patio. Arrive around golden hour, grab a cocktail and watch the surrounding formations light up before settling in for Latin-inspired cuisine.

This would be such a beautiful date-night stop.

3. Dobbins Lookout | Phoenix

You don’t have to leave Phoenix for an incredible sunset.

Located within South Mountain Park and Preserve, Dobbins Lookout gives you sweeping views of Downtown Phoenix, the surrounding mountains and the Sonoran Desert. Stay as the sun goes down and you’ll get to watch the city lights slowly come alive below.

4. Floor 13 Rooftop Bar | Phoenix

If you prefer your sunset with a cocktail in hand, Floor 13 puts you right above Downtown Phoenix.

The rooftop overlooks the surrounding skyline and city streets, giving you a completely different perspective as the desert sky changes color and Phoenix begins to glow after dark.

5. Mesa Grill Sedona | Sedona

Located atop Airport Mesa, Mesa Grill is another Sedona spot where the view is just as much a part of the experience as dinner.

Its elevated setting gives you a beautiful perspective of the surrounding red rocks, especially as the formations begin changing color during golden hour.

6. Different Pointe of View | Phoenix

The name really says it all.

Located high above the Valley at Hilton Phoenix Tapatio Cliffs Resort, Different Pointe of View offers expansive views across Phoenix, the desert and surrounding mountains.

Try timing your dinner reservation around sunset and let the Arizona scenery provide the entertainment.

7. Talavera | Scottsdale

For a sunset dinner closer to Scottsdale, Talavera at Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North deserves a spot on your list.

Its elevated location and patio overlook Pinnacle Peak, rugged Sonoran Desert terrain and distant mountains. Add a colorful Arizona sunset and you have a pretty incredible setting for dinner.

8. Ambiente Sedona | Sedona

If you want to turn sunset into a full getaway, Ambiente Sedona was designed to make the surrounding landscape part of the experience.

Its glass-walled accommodations and private rooftop spaces create an incredible setting for watching the red rocks at sunset. Once the light disappears, Sedona’s starry night skies take over.

9. El Tovar Hotel | Grand Canyon

It’s hard to beat a hotel located right along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

El Tovar puts you steps away from one of Arizona’s most iconic landscapes, making it easy to head outside for sunset before returning to the historic hotel afterward.

Definitely one to save for your next Grand Canyon trip.

10. The Moonstone Rooftop | Tucson

Tucson sunsets deserve some love too.

The Moonstone combines views of Downtown Tucson with the surrounding mountains, creating a beautiful backdrop as the desert light begins to change. Grab a drink, settle in and make golden hour part of your evening downtown.

There’s Nothing Quite Like an Arizona Sunset

One of my favorite things about living in Arizona is that you don’t have to go very far to find a view that makes you stop for a second and take it all in.

You can watch the sunset from a Scottsdale resort, hike to a Phoenix overlook, sip cocktails on a rooftop, or plan an entire weekend around the red rocks of Sedona or the Grand Canyon.

So save this list for your next date night, Arizona road trip or evening out. And wherever you end up, there’s really only one rule: look west.
