13 Best Arizona Campgrounds for Fall Camping

Fall is one of my favorite times to explore Arizona. As temperatures start cooling down, it’s the perfect excuse to get outside, plan a weekend trip and experience a completely different side of the state.

And if camping is on your fall bucket list, there are plenty of Arizona spots worth knowing about.

A national study by TRIO analyzed more than 111,000 customer reviews across 136 public campgrounds, scoring each location on factors including cleanliness, scenery, facilities, peace and quiet, activities and other key categories.

Arizona had 13 campgrounds make the national rankings, including Desert View Campground at the Grand Canyon, which landed at No. 10 in the country with a score of 93.5 out of 100.

Here are all 13 Arizona campgrounds that made the list:

1. Desert View Campground | Grand Canyon Village

National Rank: #10

Desert View Campground is Arizona’s highest-ranked campground in the study, earning a score of 93.5 out of 100. It received excellent ratings for cleanliness, facilities, peace and quiet, and environment, with 97.1% of review mentions about cleanliness being positive.

2. Burro Creek Campground | Wikieup

National Rank: #38

Burro Creek Campground was the second-highest-ranked Arizona campground, coming in at No. 38 nationally. Review analysis gave it excellent ratings for cleanliness, staff, and peace and quiet.

3. Mather Campground | Grand Canyon Village

National Rank: #56

Mather Campground ranked No. 56 nationwide and was one of three Grand Canyon-area campgrounds to place within the national Top 60. It received excellent ratings for its facilities and environment.

4. North Rim Campground | Grand Canyon North Rim

National Rank: #59

North Rim Campground came in at No. 59 nationally, making it the third Grand Canyon-area campground in the Top 60. The study highlighted its cleanliness and peace and quiet.

5. Lees Ferry Campground | Marble Canyon

National Rank: #61

Located in Marble Canyon, Lees Ferry Campground ranked No. 61 in the national analysis. It earned excellent ratings specifically for its scenery and cleanliness.

6. Aspen Campground | Payson

National Rank: #66

Aspen Campground represented Payson on the national list at No. 66. According to the study, the campground received excellent ratings for both its scenery and facilities.

7. Clear Creek Campground | Camp Verde

National Rank: #79

Clear Creek Campground ranked No. 79 nationally. The Camp Verde campground was recognized with excellent ratings for cleanliness and facilities.

8. White Spar Campground | Prescott

National Rank: #85

Prescott’s White Spar Campground landed at No. 85 in the national rankings. It received excellent ratings for cleanliness and facilities.

9. Manzanita Campground | Sedona

National Rank: #90

Manzanita Campground was the highest-ranked of the three Sedona campgrounds included on Arizona’s list, coming in at No. 90 nationally. The study gave it excellent ratings for scenery and cleanliness.

10. Burnt Corral Campground | Roosevelt

National Rank: #93

Burnt Corral Campground ranked No. 93 nationwide. Located in Roosevelt, it received an excellent rating for its environment.

11. Cave Springs Campground | Sedona

National Rank: #109

The second Sedona campground on the list, Cave Springs ranked No. 109 nationally. Its strongest categories in the study were facilities and environment, both of which received excellent ratings.

12. Dogtown Lake Campground | Williams

National Rank: #110

Dogtown Lake Campground in Williams followed closely at No. 110. The study highlighted the campground for its scenery and peace and quiet.

13. Pine Flat Campground | Sedona

National Rank: #114

Pine Flat Campground rounds out Arizona’s 13 nationally ranked campgrounds at No. 114. It was the third Sedona campground on the list and received an excellent rating for its facilities.

The Grand Canyon Had a Strong Showing

One thing that stood out to me from the rankings was just how well the Grand Canyon area performed.

Three campgrounds near the Grand Canyon ranked within the Top 60 nationally: Desert View at No. 10, Mather at No. 56 and North Rim at No. 59.

And Arizona’s representation went well beyond the Grand Canyon. The 13 ranked campgrounds stretch across destinations including Sedona, Payson, Prescott, Camp Verde, Williams, Marble Canyon, Wikieup and Roosevelt, giving you plenty of options depending on where you want to spend a fall weekend.

Fall Camping in Arizona

One of my favorite things about Arizona is how quickly the landscape can change once you start exploring beyond the Valley.

You can head north toward the Grand Canyon, spend a weekend around Sedona, escape to Payson or Prescott, or discover somewhere completely new.

With 13 Arizona campgrounds earning national recognition, fall is a pretty good time to start planning your next Arizona adventure.
