Scottsdale just got a stunning new landmark. The REMI. Scottsdale, Autograph Collection, has unveiled “The Flame” — a breathtaking 17-foot sculpture created by world-renowned South African artist Daniel Popper. Known for his larger-than-life installations that blend nature, humanity, and storytelling, Popper designed this piece as a tribute to authenticity and transformation.
Crafted from glass fiber reinforced concrete and brass, The Flame is as captivating by day as it is at night. In the sunlight, its flowing design shifts with perspective, reflecting the fleeting yet powerful nature of fire. After dark, the sculpture softly glows, transforming into a radiant beacon that invites reflection, renewal, and connection.
“Daniel Popper’s installations have transformed public spaces around the world, and we’re proud to be the home of his latest creation,” said Beth Brainard, general manager at The REMI. Scottsdale. “The Flame embodies our vision of blending art, culture, and hospitality in a way that feels both welcoming and unforgettable.”
The project was commissioned by Stockdale Capital Partners and Premium Point Development, in partnership with Scottsdale Public Art and the City of Scottsdale’s Cultural Improvements Program. Designed as more than just artwork, The Flame is meant to be a gathering place — a spot for both locals and visitors to pause and connect.
Popper’s work has been featured at Afrikaburn in South Africa, Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas, and Boom Festival in Portugal. His monumental sculptures often serve as gateways or totems, encouraging contemplation and connection with the environment.
As part of The REMI. Scottsdale’s mission to pair art with luxury hospitality, The Flame joins the property’s design-forward aesthetic and sweeping views of Camelback Mountain. Managed by Crescent Hotels & Resorts, the hotel continues to reimagine what luxury in the Sonoran Desert looks like.
✨ The Flame is now open to the public and can be experienced from the hotel’s outdoor plaza.
