Phoenix's dining scene just keeps getting better.
This fall, a brand-new restaurant called Lado A Lado will open in the former Joyride location on Central Avenue, bringing together two of Arizona's most respected names in food and hospitality: Chiwas Hospitality Group and Upward Projects.
If you've ever loved dining at Postino, Windsor, Federal Pizza, Churn, Tacos Chiwas, Cocina Chiwas, or Espiritu, you'll definitely want to keep this one on your radar.
Lado A Lado will take over the iconic mid-century building that has long been home to Joyride in Uptown Phoenix.
Located on The Block along Central Avenue, the restaurant joins one of the city's most popular dining destinations, surrounded by neighborhood favorites like Postino, Windsor, Federal Pizza, and Churn.
While Joyride's Phoenix location will officially close on August 2, 2026, its Gilbert location will remain open.
Construction on the new restaurant begins shortly after, with Lado A Lado expected to open later this fall.
"Lado A Lado" translates to "side by side," and that idea is at the heart of the restaurant.
For the team behind Chiwas Hospitality Group, the name reflects growing up sharing meals, cooking together with family, and gathering around the table. For Upward Projects, it represents creating neighborhood spaces where people naturally come together.
The result is expected to be much more than just another restaurant. It's designed to become a community gathering place rooted in hospitality and shared experiences.
This collaboration brings together two powerhouse Arizona hospitality groups.
Known for award-winning concepts including:
The group has earned national recognition, including multiple James Beard Award nominations, for showcasing authentic regional Mexican cuisine.
The team behind some of Phoenix's most recognizable neighborhood restaurants, including:
They're known for transforming unique spaces into local gathering spots that quickly become neighborhood favorites.
While the full menu hasn't been released yet, we do know a few exciting details.
Lado A Lado will be inspired by the flavors and traditions of Northern Mexico, particularly the Sonoran region.
Expect a menu focused on:
One of the restaurant's centerpiece features will be an open parrillada (grill) alongside a raw bar, allowing guests to watch much of the cooking happen right in front of them.
Before construction begins, Joyride is giving Phoenix diners one final reason to stop by.
Through August 2, the restaurant is offering its popular Taco Tuesday specials every day of the week from 2 p.m. until close, including:
It's the perfect excuse to enjoy one last meal before the space begins its next chapter.
One of my favorite things about living in Phoenix is watching our local restaurant scene continue to evolve.
Lado A Lado isn't just another restaurant opening. It's a collaboration between two hospitality groups that have already helped shape some of the Valley's most-loved dining destinations. Combining Upward Projects' welcoming neighborhood atmosphere with Chiwas Hospitality Group's incredible Sonoran-inspired cuisine feels like a perfect match.
Whether you're always looking for the newest restaurant to try, planning your next date night, or simply love exploring Phoenix's food scene, this is definitely one opening worth watching.
